U-Multirank's unique 'Sunburst chart' gives an illustration of a university's performance profile across the five U-Multirank dimensions. These are indicated in different colours. For instance, the teaching and learning dimension is symbolised by the colour green. Each 'sunray' represents one of the thirty plus U-Multirank indicators. The longer the ray, the better the performance of an institution on the selected indicator: a full-length ray stands for 'top group' performance, whereas a short ray means 'weak' performance. A missing sunray indicates that the specific data indicator is not available. An institution's performance in an indicator can be identified by moving the cursor over the rays. A key guard for the sunburst chart is provided here .

There is a strong emphasis on education as a discipline and many modules are relevant to that discipline. Moreover, the curriculum is strongly interdisciplinary and various modules from humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, mathematics and computer science are taught. Nevertheless, the main focus is on the contribution of each science to education in general and in early education in particular. The department aims as its primary teaching outcome at the application of theoretical knowledge within the classroom. To a large extent, this is also achieved through the internship programme.

The curriculum lays emphasis on educational modules, while the internship programme which combines preparatory and reflective seminars guarantees the implementation of theoretical knowledge to the classroom. The department specializes in curriculum development and also in multicultural education. In addition, the curriculum is strongly interdisciplinary since students have many mandatory and optional modules from most scientific fileds. The departmental research output is relevant to the staff’s disciplinary focus, with an emphasis on application of scientific knowledge in the classroom.

The programme provides flexibility in student choice. Students have common core courses at the beginning, before choosing one of the two specializations (History/Ethnology). The curriculum integrates into a coherent programme of studies the fields of historical sciences, social anthropology, physical anthropology, and archaeology. It takes a comparative approach, in both a diachronic and a geographic/cultural sense, with a particular regional focus (Balkan, Eastern Europe, Mediterranean). Students are trained in skills such as the analysis of primary sources, field work, and critical thinking.
