U-Multirank's unique 'Sunburst chart' gives an illustration of a university's performance profile across the five U-Multirank dimensions. These are indicated in different colours. For instance, the teaching and learning dimension is symbolised by the colour green. Each 'sunray' represents one of the thirty plus U-Multirank indicators. The longer the ray, the better the performance of an institution on the selected indicator: a full-length ray stands for 'top group' performance, whereas a short ray means 'weak' performance. A missing sunray indicates that the specific data indicator is not available. An institution's performance in an indicator can be identified by moving the cursor over the rays. A key guard for the sunburst chart is provided here .

Specialised mathematical programme that provides the theoretical foundations and skills necessary for a comprehensive understanding of large areas of the increasingly complex financial and actuarial markets. Students are enabled to assess the possibilities (but also limitations) of mathematical modelling for problems in the financial industry and/or actuarial industry, to develop powerful mathematical models and to put them into practice. On the other hand, students will be introduced to current application-oriented mathematical research in their major field of study.

Students of computer science can choose from a wide range of specialisations; a large free elective area with 32LP(B.Sc.) / 34LP(M.Sc.) allows an individual choice of modules and has a positive effect on the studyability due to the high flexibility; due to the high density of IT companies and research institutes in the region, students can acquire a very practical education in addition to a strong scientific foundation; all specialisation lectures are offered in English, which makes the department attractive for international students.

The degree program in biophysics is supported by the three departments of biology, chemistry and physics and flanked by mathematics. The more interdisciplinary problems can only be solved through close cooperation between the three disciplines. During their studies, students are taught not only the fundamentals but also the skills to participate in and significantly advance current research. In the meantime, this degree has been replaced by the Bachelor, Master program.

The specialisation "Microbial and Plant Biotechnology" provides a deepened, scientifically founded education in the biotechnological use of microorganisms & plants. The students acquire knowledge in the molecular biology of pro- and eukaryotic cells, and learn modern methods in their investigation and genetic manipulation. They become familiar with the concepts of systems biology and bioinformatics, and their practical application. The degree holders are capable of performing scientific work independently, and to apply their knowledge in different contexts.

The aim of the Socioinformatics degree programme is to teach knowledge, skills and competencies for the specification and evaluation of software systems and the implementation of software development projects. The goals lie in the intersection of computer science (especially software engineering and system development), social sciences (especially psychology and sociology) and economics, with a focus on computer science. It targets socially engaged, communicative students who understand the need for large-scale software systems.

The participation of the faculty in 4 DFG Collaborative Research Centres allows a very good equipment and an early involvement in focused research projects in pioneering areas of modern physics. This includes, for example, concepts for new spin-based computer logics, basic research on Quantum Optics and Ultra Cold Quantum Systems, but also modern Laser and Surface Physics for medicine. In 2021, the new research building Laboratory for Advanced Spin Engineering will be opened. Close cooperation exists with the DFKI, the FhG Institute ITWM.

he research profile initially results from the individual profiles of the subject areas. In addition, cross-departmental topics, such as sustainable corporate management, are also worked on. Especially in the case of third-party funded projects, there are cooperative relationships with other departments or affiliated institutes and other universities. With its third-party funding per professorship, the department is at the top of the league of economics departments.

The master program in Mathematics guides students in a mathematical subfield up to problems of current research. The program is designed to enable graduates to independently and quickly familiarize themselves with new areas, even outside of mathematics. For this reason, the study of an application subject is also part of the education.

On the one hand, a solid basic education enables students as early as possible to solve problems in a pragmatic manner using scientific methods and methods of computer science. On the other hand, this basic education forms a basis to enable students with an interest in mathematical thinking, learning, and teaching processes to start mathematics didactics already in the bachelor's program.
